CHICAGO BAND AND CHOIR TRIP 2015

CHICAGO BAND AND CHOIR TRIP 2015:  A GREAT SUCCESS!

On Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 9:30am,  44 of Brennan's finest musicians embarked on their annual band and choir trip.  This time,  we found ourselves in Chicago Illinois, home of  the most amazing architecture in North America, an exciting cultural history complete with gangsters, speakeasies,  and of course the  center of blues and swing jazz in North America.

Our students spent their first night at Tommy Gun's Garage where they enjoyed a delicious dinner and interactive musical revue about the gangsters that once ruled Chicago.  The next day the Concert Band performed for Lexington Elmhurst Senior Living Residence,  and concluded their visit by eating lunch along side the gracious and generous residents of this retirement home.  The band sounded great and the audience was incredibly appreciative!  We hope to bring future bands their one day as we received a tremendous reception. This was followed by a trip to Navy Pier, an exciting bus tour narrated by a local gangster who schooled us in the history of the city,  and of course  balcony seats at the Broadway production of Jersey Boys!  ( If you haven't been to see this, I highly recommend it !)

On Saturday, May 16, our students traveled to the Field Museum of Natural History where they toured the Vikings Display .  Our Sr Jazz Ensemble performed for an hour only a few feet away from Sue, the world's largest Tyrannosaurus Re,  and received tremendous accolades for their great work.  Special thanks to band parents Mr. and Mrs. Hepburn for attending our concert ! After lunch and shopping on the Magnificent Mile, we boarded our boat at the Wendella docks for a tour of the breathtaking architecture found along the Chicago River.  Our weather was perfect and our students were amazed by the sights and the innovation behind these structures.

After a dinner at Andy's Jazz club,  where we enjoyed the sounds of quintet Individuation, we braved the dizzying heights of the SkyDeck located in the Sear's Tower ( 12th highest tower in the world).  The next day we were fortunate enough to attend mass at Holy Name Cathedral-one of the jewels of the city.  Our students were blown away by the amazing choir and instrumentalists that performed throughout this mass.   All in all,  AN EXCELLENT TRIP!

Congratulations to the Concert Band, Jazz Choir and Sr. Jazz Ensemble for being excellent ambassadors for our school, and country during this wonderful trip.   You were absolutely great!  Thank you so much to chaperones Mrs. Kelly Koren and Mr. Steuart Bruce for their assistance, expertise and time on this long weekend.  We could not have done this without your support.

Chicago trip pictures are posted below and will continue to be posted throughout the next few days!

WORKING WITH THE ENVIRONMENT ART SHOW: RESULTS

F.J. BRENNAN H.S. VISUAL ARTS AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM
TEAM UP FOR ANNUAL ENVIRONMENT ART SHOW

Georgina Attard, Allison Coffey and Jamie Nowak submitted fine art and photographic works for this year's Unifor "Working with the Environment" art show.  Each of their works were well received and as a recognition of students' involvement in this year's show, they each won a year's membership to the Arts Council Windsor Region.  Kudos to these three creative students!

Next up is our own showcase, Brennan's third student photography exhibition is happening next weeek at the Art's Council's "ArtSpeak Gallery", located at 1942 Wyandotte St. E., between Kildare and Devonshire.  The show opens Tuesday afternoon.  Everyone can attend and admission is free throughout the week.  Gallery hours are: Tuesday – 1-5pm, Wednesday – 1-7pm, Thursday – 1pm-5pm and Friday – 1pm-5pm.  Our Closing Reception Gala will happen on Friday evening, from 5:30-8:00p.m.  In the past, our Friday evening receptions have been a wonderful time to take a closer look at the many highly creative and interesting photographic art works hanging on the walls and to meet the student artists behind the camera. Refreshments and light fare will be served at the Gala.  All are welcome.

F.J. BRENNAN PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

SEEING THE WORLD DIFFERENTLY:  F.J. BRENNAN
SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
Get ready to celebrate the art of photography, as Brennan's Senior Photography students proudly present their most creative and interesting works of 2014-15.  In our second public photography exhibition of the school year, over 140 artistic photographs will be up on display next week at ArtSpeak, the public art gallery for the Arts Council Windsor Region.

In this exhibition, entitled, "Seeing the World Differently", work from dozens of different student artists will be hung on the walls for everyone to come and appreciate.  This time around, we will have more special effect photos, in addition to many stunning images in the genres of abstract, portraiture, self-portraiture, landscape, architecture, still life and studies in perspective.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.  The Exhibition runs Tuesday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1-7 p.m.  Join us for light fare and conversation at our Closing Reception Gala on Friday, from 5-8 p.m.  Most of our student artists are expected to be at the Closing Reception, where they can share their insights and perspectives on their own works.  ArtSpeak Gallery is located at 1942 Wyandotte Street East in Windsor, between Kildare and Devonshire Roads in Olde Walkerville.
